Celebrity Birthday: Annabeth Gish - 52

 

Let’s help Annabeth Gish celebrate her 52nd birthday! She was born on this day in 1971 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She started her acting career when she played Rose Chismore in 1986’s Desert Bloom, but she didn’t really make her claim to fame until she appeared in Mystic Pizza in 1988. Since starting her acting career as a teenager, Annabeth starred in a long list of films and TV shows. Some of those early credits include Wyatt Earp (1994), Nixon (1995), and a starring role in the 29-episode series Brotherhood (2006-2008).

Annabeth Gish Joins the FBI

As a chronic X-Phile, I admit that I will always associate Annabeth Gish with her role as Agent Monica Reyes on The X-Files. She joined the series as a recurring character in 2001, appearing in four episodes in season 8 before returning as a regular for season 9. She again returned for The X-Files revival, reprising her role in seasons 10 and 11.

Does A Stand for Annabeth?

Ms. Gish also appeared in the Freeform series Pretty Little Liars in a recurring role. She played Dr. Anne Sullivan in six episodes through season 6 and, at times, raised suspicions that her character might have been the villain of the series. Ultimately, it was revealed that Anne Sullivan was just a red herring and the hunt for A continued. Still, Gish would reprise her role for two episodes in season 3 and one episode in season 6.

Annabeth Pursues Her Love of Horror

For more than a decade, Annabeth Gish’s love of horror can be seen in her career. The 2011 Stephen King miniseries Bag of Bones was one of her earliest horror credits following her X-Files role. She later starred in the 2016 horror thriller Before I Wake. Two years later, she was cast as Mrs. Dudley in Mike Flanagan’s The Haunting of Hill House.

Gish Goes to Midnight Mass & Discovers the Mayfair Witches

Mike Flanagan would cast Annabeth again in 2021 for his Midnight Mass miniseries on Netflix. She played Dr. Sarah Gunning in the series and can be seen in all seven episodes. This year, Annabeth has expanded her list of compelling characters by appearing in Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches. She plays Deirdre Mayfair, who is the birth mother of Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario). Gish is in five of the eight episodes in season 1 of the new gothic horror series.

What’s Next for Annabeth Gish?

Annabeth isn’t slowing down. She has seven future projects in development or going through post-production. She’ll star in the mystery/drama Stay at Conder Beach, which focuses on a small seaside town where a series of deaths rocks the community. She’ll also star in Ride, a crime drama about a family of bull fighters trying to raise money for a loved one’s cancer treatments.

For those of us looking forward to Gish in more horror flicks, we won’t have long to wait. Later this year, she’ll star in All Fun and Games, a horror film about a children’s game with a demonic twist. All Fun and Games is tentatively slated for a June 2023 release.

Annabeth is also teaming up with Mike Flanagan once again for his adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher. While there isn’t a specific release date for The Fall of the House of Usher, we do know Netflix plans to release the miniseries sometime this year. If I had to guess, I’d say we should probably expect the release in September or October to capitalize on the spooky season.
